ANSE ROYALE BEACH PARK/COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT CONSULTATIVE MEETING WITH BOAT OWNERS AND FISHERMAN
Boat owners and the members of the fisherman community of Anse Royale were able to express their views and concerns on the Anse Royale Beach Park Project on Saturday, 12th July 2014 at 1430hrs. The Principal Secretary for Land Use and Housing, Mr Joseph Francois welcomed everyone to the consultative meeting. He introduced the main speakers, Mr Yves Choppy, the Principal Secretary for Project Planning and Implementation, Mr Roy Clarisse, the Deputy CEO of the SFA as well as the Head Architect for the project, Mr Ron Felix, from the Planning Authority who was the one charged with delivering the technical presentation on the project. In his introduction PS Joseph Francois reminded all present that the district of Anse Royale was for all instance and purposes the second town currently serviced with basic facilities such as Police station, Post office, Hospital,Bank, Petrol station, shops, Tertiary Education facilities etc |

The Beach Park project aimed at reinforcing those facilities and providing additional commercial buildings and increasing commercial development in general. PS Francois remarked that the Anse Royale beach park is one of the places where locals and tourists gather for leisure activities mostly during weekends. Major activities are held in this area such as the ‘BAZAR ROYAL’ and the recent ‘Moutia’ kreol activity. One of the first questions put forth to the Government representatives related to the security aspect of the boats. It was explained that currently there are a lot of incidences of vandalism to the boats and equipments which are quite costly. This sentiment was echoed by others present and related also to the facilities such as the storage and cleaning area. Others included the details of the slipway and jetty, The organization of the ice plant, in a more cost effective and productive manner,as currently demand exceeds supply due to requests made concurrently Whether lessons learnt from the development of similar facilities at Bel Ombre could be included and considered in the plan Also present at the meeting was the Member of the National Assembly for Anse Royale Hon Dereck Samson and the District Administrator Ms Rubina Ernesta. |
